In order to rectify this, we have ordered Halo games in chronological order regarding where it lies on the timeline. RELATED: Halo: The Master Chief's Biggest Weaknessesĭue to the long, sprawling lore that surrounds the franchise, it can be hard to determine where the story starts first. The Halo universe has expanded to gargantuan proportions, but we're not complaining.

It originally came out in 2001, and the series has since spawned a variety of video games, books, and so much more. Other than the first two album, "Dire Straits" just seemed to be whoever Mark Knopfler felt like working with at the time.Halo is a franchise that has been ongoing for decades at this point. What BAND ? The members were constantly moving in and out. and Mark Knopfler did a tour backing Eric Clapton somewhere in the middle of those 6 years - LOL especially since that band (with yet another member lineup change) didn't release another album for 6 years. The whole idea that Dire Straits was being touted as "the number one BAND in the world" during 1985, just seemed strange to me. which included Jack Sonni on guitar (not sure if he displaced anyone) When Terry Williams replaced Withers for the "Twisting By The Pool" EP, I was convinced that the band had decided it wanted to sound like "Rock Pile".īy the time, "Brothers In Arms" hit the stores, Mark Knopfler had released THREE solo projects (film soundtrack LPs for "Local Hero" and "Cal" and a film soundtrack EP for "Comfort and Joy").Īnd just to further confuse matters, Terry Williams was displaced by Omar Hakim on drums (a GREAT drummer from Weather Report and who also played with Bowie around the same era), only to be invited back for the "Brother In Arms" tour. Then Mark Knopfler made another album with Bob Dylan (Infidels) minus Pick Withers this time - but with the addition of Alan Clarke.

The next album swelled the ranks to five. Then came "Making Movies" and the band suddenly had a Springsteen sound - complete with Roy Bittan piano - and a missing Knopfler brother.īut Bittan was never an official member of the band - and the original four members had been reduced to three (exit Dave K.). Much to my surprise, and delight - I loved it when Dylan invited Mark Knopfler and Pick Withers to be part of his band for the "Slow Train Coming" album.

I remember there was a lot of talk when the first album came out that it had a "Dylan" sound (which was typical for a LOT of artists at the time). I'm pretty sure that was the complete band for the first two albums (self titled, and Communique). Honestly, my main thoughts about "Brothers In Arms" when it came out were more focused on the constantly changing sets of band members. I don't play this album much anymore - and if I did, I would probably reach for the multichannel dualdisc/dvd_A. I seem to remember "Why Worry?" being much longer on CD too. the CD version for some of the songs just seemed too long. To this day, I also prefer the shorter edits on the vinyl LP version of "Brothers In Arms". There is an extended trumpet part at the beginning of "Your Latest Trick" on CD, but that whole intro is completely missing from the LP. I remember two years later, a friend of mine heard my LP and commented that his CD had a trumpet in a spot where my LP had a saxophone. I do remember being aware that my "Broad Street" LP was missing a few tracks (but in that case, I think the bonus tracks were also on the cassette version). Maybe it was McCartney's "Give My Regards To Broad Street" soundtrack (which pre-dates "Brothers In Arms"). I was aware that compact discs existed - but I can't remember the first time I actually saw one in a store. I'm not sure the store I was in would have even carried compact discs. I have this vague memory of waiting in line to get the concert tickets, then immediately going around the corner and buying the vinyl LP for "Brothers In Arms". I think I bought the album the same day I waited in line to buy tickets for a Dire Straits concert.
